Art from the beach…

Creativity with trinkets found at the beach

By Camala Richardson Publisher, Macaroni Kid Cape Cod January 5, 2025

We all live near the ocean, and periodically find ourselves walking the beaches with our children.Inevitably little ocean trinkets from the beach end up in pockets: sea glass, shells, pebbles and drift wood. Upon return home, they are deposited on mantlepieces, in desk or bureau drawers, or in shoebox collections.  Quickly forgotten.  Now is the time to search out these hidden treasures, or to head to the beach to collect for this project!

Sea Shore Mosaic

Supplies needed:

Hand collected beach treasures: Shells, sea glass, pebbles, driftwood, etc.

Stretched canvas - source at local craft stores

Crafter's glue

Step 1:

Design your subject – ideas include Mermaids, octopus, starfish, crabs, sea turtles and whales.  Encourage your child to draw the object on the canvas with a pencil.

Step 2:

Have your child cover the entire image with the Crafter's glue.

Step 3:

The trinkets from the beach can now be arranged on the glue coated image.

Step 4:

Allow to dry.  Display your little artist’s work and enjoy.  Remember to have them put their name on it and date it, so that you both can share that memory whenever you look at it.  Don’t be afraid to share picture to friends and family on your social media accounts!
