Five Barnstable Breakfast Spots We Love

By Layni Loumiotis-Hook Publisher, Macaroni Kid Cape Cod April 4, 2019

My kids and my husband love to go out to breakfast on a weekend morning. I can't say I often tell them no.

After all, what’s not to love about breakfast? No matter what kind of breakfast you’re in the mood for -- the sweet or the savory -- you can find it in Barnstable.

Plus … breakfast has bacon!

And don’t even get me started on Bloody Marys!

Hungry for breakfast yet?

I am! So I've rounded up my family's choices for the top five breakfast spots in the Barnstable, MA area, along with the reasons that my family loves them. I've listed them in alphabetical order:

Earthly Delights

15 W Bay Rd. Osterville 508-420-2206

Hours: Monday-Friday 7am-4pm Saturday 8am-3pm Sunday 8am-2pm (in season)

What we love: Earthly Delights is a neighborhood spot with a Bohemian vibe. It’s where locals can run in for their morning shot of wheat grass or an eco- minded sandwich for lunch (try the blackened chicken! It is such a favorite in my family that when my brother-in-law moved to Chicago, his best friend would bring a few with him anytime he went to visit) My husband, kids and I crave the strawberry smoothies ( why can’t I make them THAT GOOD?) and bacon, egg, and cheddar sandwiches on an English muffin (the best breakfast sandwich I’ve had) We like to either take our food to the beach or sit on the porch among Mary’s potted flowers and herbs to eat. It’s amazing, go there!

Sea Street Café

50 Sea Street Hyannis 508-534-9129

Hours: Monday-Sunday 7am-2pm

What we love: The Sea Street Café is a "breakfast all day" neighborhood style eatery which specializes in farm fresh eggs served any way you could imagine, even with a Cape Cod twist.  Their menu even boasts a "Cape Cod Benedict" made with mini lobster cakes (yum!) Or about a grilled grapefruit with dark rum and brown sugar?  Sounds crazy good, right? Try them out, you will be happy you did!

Spoon and Seed

12 Thornton Dr. Hyannis 774-470-4634

Hours: Monday- Closed Tuesday- Friday 7:00am- 2:30pm Saturday-Sunday 7:30am-2:00pm

What we love: If you haven’t been to this relatively new spot for breakfast, you are missing out. The Spoon and Seed is located in the old Murph’s Recession. It is rustic on the inside with no frills to speak of, but the food is everything we want breakfast to be. Seriously.... the breakfast you have been dreaming of!  Their menu features organic, vegetarian, and gluten free options with ingredients such as avocado, lox, quinoa, market greens, whipped ricotta, house-made granola, chimichurri, and...wait for it...house-smoked pork loin!!!Sounds amazing, right? It is! My kids inhaled the challah French toast the last time they were there. Go, you will love it!

The Daily Paper

644 W Main St. Hyannis 508-790-8800

546 Main St. Hyannis 508-775-9711

Hours:

Monday- Saturday 6am-2pm Sunday 7am-1pm (W Main St.)

Monday- Saturday 6am-2pm Sunday 6am- 1pm (Main St. Café)

What we love: Now in two locations, a cozier spot directly on Main Street Hyannis, and a second larger spot on W Main, Hyannis. The second location gives you a bit more elbow room.  This location has been a breakfast spot of many names, I think it was called “Mr. Richard’s” when I was a kid, who remembers that? I love how it’s just the neighborhood spot to grab breakfast. The best thing about The Daily Paper is who you will run into.  I always end up seeing an old friend from elementary school, I love it! The breakfast is good too. They serve your classic breakfast favorites, everyone will find something they like on the menu. The menu hosts native ingredients and offers organic, gluten free, health conscious, and vegetarian options.

The Mills Restaurant

149 Cotuit Rd. Marstons Mills 508-428-9814

Hours: Sunday 7am-1pm Monday-Saturday 7am-2pm

What we love: I used to go here with friends who lived nearby a lot as a teenager. It’s a tiny neighborhood restaurant with all the breakfast items you would expect on their menu. The Mills Restaurant is kid friendly and serves breakfast all day. Their coffee is an organic Wellfleet blend which is hand roasted on Cape Cod.

Hungry yet? Me too. Time for breakfast.
