Creating a Leprechaun Trap

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with Kids

By Melissa Gray-Scoskie, Publisher Mom for Cape Cod and the Islands March 15, 2018

Last year my daughter's kindergarten class made a Leprechaun Trap to try their best to catch a mischievous Leprechaun. They didn't end up with a Leprechaun, but he caused quite a bit of mischief around their classroom. Ever since she's been excited to do it again, so this year we made one together at home. We had a lot of fun researching designs online and then creating our very own trap! We mostly used what we had on hand already, digging through our huge stash of craft supplies. I did buy some great coin and shamrock confetti that we glued on for decoration, which I found for $1! Some of the coins we put inside the box as an enticement to go down the slide, and then bam! One trapped Leprechaun!

What you'll need:

  • A box - we used an old garbage bag box
  • Green paper or paint
  • Gold or yellow paint or paper (optional)
  • Some sort of St. Patrick's Day decorations - gold coins, green necklace, etc.
  • Gold Coins
  • Tape & glue
  • Scissors

Good Luck! Happy Leprechaun catching & Happy St. Patrick's Day!
