My kids love the idea of going on a picnic, so we pack up what seems like half of our refrigerator a few times a year and head out to one of our favorite Cape Cod picnic spots.
We’re lucky, on Cape Cod to have so many great picnic spots to choose from! Here’s my family’s list of top three picnic spots on Cape.
Location: Drummer Boy Park, Brewster
Features: Beautiful open fields, restrooms
What my kids love: There is a playground! Yay!
What I love: I love the location! This is a great place to stop and let the kids stretch their legs after being in the car a while. Located right off 6A, we always pass Drummer Boy Park while heading down Cape and on the way home again. It’s fun to grab lunch at Katie’s down the road and bring it here to eat on a blanket!
Location:Kalmus Beach, Hyannis
Features: 2 Beaches, a huge parking lot, bathrooms, snack bar catered by The Riverway Lobster House , covered picnic tables.
What my kids love: There is tons of space to explore and search for treasures. This area is always busy with ferry boats passing through and kite boarders to watch.
What I love: Even off season, this is a great place to bring a picnic with the covered table area. The two beaches are fun to explores, and there is always lots to look at.
Location:Splash Pad at Mashpee Recreation
Features: Splash pad, playground, open fields, covered picnic tables, portable toilets.
What my kids love: The splash pad is so fun in warm weather! There are always other kids to play with.
What I love: Every time we visit, both the playground and splash pad are very clean. They are also side by side, making it easy to keep and eye on both areas at once. The shaded picnic tables are a great spot to take a break, eat, or place a stroller with a napping baby.
That’s my family’s list, but I bet your family has their own favorite Cape Cod picnic spots! I’d love to know where they are. Drop me a line on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MacaroniKidCapeCod/or email me at laynih@macaronikid.com.
Have a great time on your picnic adventure, and remember...don’t forget the napkins!
